John F. McGuire Memorial Golf Outing

This years golf outing will be held Friday, October 3, 2008. We will be golfing at Ives Groves Golf Links, 14101 Washington Ave, Sturtevant, WI. Golf Check in will be from 11-12:00, with a 12:15 shotgun start. Dinner reception starts at 5:30 at Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St, Racine, WI, with dinner at 6:30. Please see the attached flyer for all the information. The flyer includes a reservation form which can be mailed in.

The Cost is $90 for golf and dinner, or $40 for dinner and scholarship donation.

Register early as this fills up real quick as we can only take 144 golfers.

Some updates on our Soccer Players at College

Anthony Glidden (Grad 08) is attending D3 St. Norberts College and will be on the Mens Soccer team this yr. He will be at Carthage College Battle on the Border Tournament Sept 5-7th. Joe Westrich (St Cats Grad)who started for MSOE Mens Soccer last yr will be a Soph this yr. Jim Schultz (St Cats Grad) has transferred from St. Marys College and is a Sophomore at Division 1 Bradley University for Mens Soccer. He is currently there back up GK. Tony Guinn (past St Cats coach/St Cats Grad) will be at Western IL coaching Womens Soccer for his second yr.

We found a really nice location for Friday, it's called Pelican Larry's Raw Bar & Grill, located at 7785 Davis Blvd Naples, it's basically a very nice sport bar in a easy location, with plenty of room. It has both indoor and outdoor facilities, so it should be perfect. I'd also like to try and set up a golf outing on Friday the 24th, maybe we can get 3-4 foursomes and I have a real nice course right down the street, in fact it's the course that is located behind our villa that some of you are welcome to stay at, it's located in Cedar Hammock, about 1 mile from Pelican Larry's and about 3 miles from our home. I do need to get some idea on a number so we can get it set Saturday we are setting up a Halloween Theme for the party. RSVP for sure, since we need to tell the catering company what to expect. There is also a nice little condo are right by us, Green Links and they have 1-2-3 bedroom condos that start at $150.00 and it's really a very nice place, overlooking a course. I'm not sure what some of the Wisconsin people had planned on accommodations, but if we need something, this should work out fine.

Chuck Wood Named New Athletic Director

St. Catherine's High School Athletic Director, health teacher and varsity girl's basketball coach, Jeff Tarkowski, submitted his letter of resignation June 15 after 18 years in the position. "One reason for my conditional resignation is that I will be working on my practicum for my Masters of School of Guidance from UWM this fall," states Tarkowski. Jeff thanked the school for the opportunities provided to serve in leadership roles during the eighteen years he has been with SCHS. "We are all sad to see him go," said President Christopher Olley. "Jeff's done a very nice job here and seemed real happy at SCHS. We wish him the best as he procures his dream of a masters' degree. We would also like to announce that 1960 graduate Chuck Wood will be appointed as the new athletic director of his Alma mater. After attending Loyola University in Chicago and was the 6th man on the Ramblers, 1963 NCAA Basketball Championship team, Wood returned to SCHS as a social studies teacher, cross county / track coach, and boys sophomore basketball coach in the late 1960's early 1970's. Woods than received his MS Degree from Roosevelt University in Guidance and Counseling/ School Administration in 1973, before leaving SCHS for a career at Gateway Technical College in various administrative positions. Upon retirement from Gateway, Chuck was elected president of the SCHS Alumni Association in October 2005 and most recently returned to St. Catherine's as assistant boys' basketball coach. "We are please to welcome Chuck Wood as new Athletic Director to SCHS." said President Olley. "His extensive experience and his history of accomplishments, along with his great energy, will make a welcome addition to our award winning athletic program."
