Shaymus Guinn is the son of our former Soccer Coach Tony Guinn. Tony and his wife Karla just recently received some shocking news. The following letter explains more. Please keep him in your prayers
Someone once said to me these very wise words of wisdom. “You have what it takes to overcome any obstacle in your life. Having faith is trusting in what you cannot see.” There is an obstacle facing Shaymus Guinn, and with our help he and his parents, Tony and Karla can overcome it. I would like to share a story with you about a beautiful boy, Shaymus Guinn. His smile lights up the world, his laugh is contagious. He is 7 years old. Very bright, beyond his age, loves to read and enjoys art. He is loved by many people, adored by his daddy, and has a mother completely devoted to him. What started with simple leg pain, turned into a limp. A simple x-ray, devastated them. Their world came tumbling down. The words tumor, bone cancer shocked them to the core. “How could this be? Why Shaymus?
The road ahead will be long. It will test their strength and courage. This is where faith comes in. Remember having faith is trusting in what they cannot see. Iowa Children’s Hospital will help them plan an attack. We need to HELP SHAYMUS KICK CANCER!!! A benefit is being planned for February 21st, 2009. Shaymus will be 8 on the 23rd. We are looking for a donation to the family for Shaymus medical expenses. An auction will take place at the benefit. We also need unique items to be placed up for bid. There will be great music, children’s activities, delicious food and lot’s of IRISH SPIRITS. A family friendly event! We hope you will join us in our quest for Shaymus. Invitations will be coming, consider this your offical,”save the date”.
I’ve heard that a child can ask questions that a wise man cannot answer. We may not have the answers that Shaymus needs right now, but we do have plenty of love and support to give him. The surest way through tough times is to believe in the power of one step at a time. Take these steps with us to HELP SHAYMUS KICK CANCER.
Yours Truly,
Special Friends of Shaymus 1-262-412-8838

Most alumni will be interested to see the article that appeared in todays Journal Times. It talks about some of the options being considered in the school's long term planning.
The Journal Times has an extensive article on Steve's summer research. Steve is a graduate of SCHS, and Notre Dame and is now attending the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Bob Letsch ‘61, Jim Cramer ‘59, and Chuck Wood ‘60 ventured to Naples, Florida for an alumni get-together. Dave Petersen ‘73 and his wife Deb opened their home and coordinated the Naples visit.
On Friday evening, alumni and friends met at Pelican Larry’s, a local pub, for food, refreshments and fellowship. Dave set up a gooofing (golfing) adventure earlier that day at a course called Cedar Hammock. The course was extremely challenging and over 100 golf balls were lost to the water, woods and nature. A few alligators were spotted along the way.
Saturday evening, Dave and Deb graciously opened their Naples home for an alumni party. The Petersen home was richly decorated for Halloween. Over 35 alumni, spouses and friends enjoyed the Petersens’ hospitality. Sally Madden ‘57 stated, “the alumni committee and the Petersens organized a great event. I had a wonderful time meeting and greeting new and old friends.” Kathy (DeFurio) Lopas ‘72 shared that she was hopeful our Florida alumni can get together again soon.” Manny Aceves ‘63 and good friend Russ Kortendick ’63 shared fond memories of their days at St. Catherine’s.
With over 300 St. Cat’s alumni living in Florida and a number wintering there as well, we hope to return in the near future.
