Kevin Henkes Class of '79 Pete Henkes Class of '73 and the Lighthouse Run

The kid brother is a best-selling children’s author, someone whose biography is readily available on the Internet.

The older brother can be found not on the Internet but rather in a nondescript shop he rents on Sixth Avenue in Racine. Walk into this hole-in-the-wall, which is so easy to miss as you drive west, and you’ll be greeted by a grand clutter surrounded by Steve Prefontaine posters.

Kevin Henkes is the best-selling author. Pete Henkes is the one who works in that cluttered Sixth Avenue shop.

And sometimes I genuinely wonder who has touched more people between the two in their respective lives.

Great article about Pete Henkes and his involvment in the Lighthouse Run for many years.

Jeff, Class of '69, will be performing at the Sixth Street Theatre. If you went to St Ed's or St Cat's this is a must read

The last time Jeff DeMark performed in Racine, George’s Tavern was packed with friends, family and the curious who came to see this hometown storyteller do his one-man show “Hard as a Diamond, Soft as the Dirt.”

That experience, which took place in June 2007, was such a positive one for DeMark that he’s decided to once again make the trek from his California home to Racine — this time to perform “Writing My Way Out of Adolescence.”

A great article on this years graduation ceremony. Congratulations and best of luck in the future, whatever you do.

Uncle O.B. had one last story for the St. Catherine’s High School Class of 2008.

The students, dressed Sunday in their caps and gowns, were treated to one last history lesson, not in Mike O’Brien’s history class, but in the school auditorium just before commencement ceremony. St. Catherine’s is one of the first area high schools to hold its graduation this year.

O’Brien said he hated clichés, but he said he would use one anyway.

"It’s now your turn to make the world a better place," said O’Brien, who has almost completed his 37th year teaching at the school.

Women Grads of the 50's Luncheon

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
General News

Over 130 women SCHS graduates from the 50's gathered for lunch in Alumni Hall (SCHS cafeteria). Once again Mary (Dacquisto) Woitach '59 and her special group of helpers prepared and served a delicious luncheon to the guest. As expected, the ladies enjoyed a stimulating afternoon of renewing old acquaintances and friendships. The ladies sat together with former classmates and reminisced about the their days at SCHS, the good memories, great stories and their growing pains of youth.

SCHS President Christopher Olley '80 patiently waited to get the audiences full attention. He reminded the ladies of St. Catherine's legacy of excellence that they assisted in developing. He stated that today's student have continued that long legacy of excellence, with the graduating class of 2008 receiving over 2.3 millions dollars in scholarship monies to forward their educational goals. He asked that each person in attendance assist his vision for St. Catherine's with a personal prayer. He also reminded them that they are always welcome and encouraged them to return to St. Catherine's to experience the excitement and talents of the "Angels" now attending SCHS.

It was a fun filling and most enjoyable afternnoon. A number of the attendees walked across Villa street and received a tour of the new alumni office building. Tom Mielcarek '63 and Jim Cramer '59 provided the tour and informational background on the building and the office to the guests.
